Trump Criticizes NBC and CNN for Not Airing Iowa Speech, Suggests License Revocation

Former President Donald Trump has called out NBC and CNN for their decision not to broadcast his entire victory speech following his win in the Iowa caucuses. 

In remarks made to a New Hampshire audience on Tuesday night, Trump expressed his discontent with the media outlets. 

“NBC and CNN refused to air my victory speech. Think of it — because they are crooked. They’re dishonest, and frankly, they should have their licenses or whatever they have: Take it away,” Trump stated.

Media Outlets’ Stance on Trump’s Speeches

MSNBC, a sister network to NBC, also chose not to show Trump’s speech, continuing a practice that has been in place since the end of his presidency. 

Rachel Maddow, a prominent pundit on MSNBC, addressed this decision, explaining the reasoning behind not providing an unfiltered live platform for Trump’s remarks. 

“There is a cost to us as a news organization of knowingly broadcasting untrue things. And that is a fundamental truth of our business and who we are,” Maddow commented, highlighting the challenges faced by news organizations in such situations.

CNN’s Partial Coverage and Trump’s Response

While CNN did air some parts of Trump’s speech, they cut away when he began using what anchor Jake Tapper described as “anti-immigrant rhetoric.” Trump’s dissatisfaction with CNN is not new; he has frequently criticized the network, labeling it “fake news.”

In contrast, Fox News and several other media outlets broadcasted Trump’s remarks in their entirety.
