UK Court Dismisses Trump Lawsuit Over ‘Steele Dossier,’ Allegations Remain Unproven

London’s High Court has rejected Donald Trump’s data protection lawsuit against Orbis Business Intelligence, a British private investigations firm connected to the controversial “Steele dossier.”

The dossier, crafted by Orbis co-founder and former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, made unverified claims linking Trump’s election campaign to Russia.

The lawsuit, brought by Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, sought to challenge the credibility of the allegations.

Judge Karen Steyn, in a written ruling, determined that there were “no compelling reasons to allow the claim to proceed.”

Trump’s lawsuit aimed to disprove assertions in the Steele dossier, particularly those suggesting his involvement in “perverted sexual acts” in Russia.

The judge, however, did not assess the accuracy of these claims, stating, “I have not considered, or made any determination, as to the accuracy or inaccuracy of the (allegations).”

Trump’s legal team contended that the dossier was “egregiously inaccurate” and contained numerous false or made-up allegations.

The court ruling does not address the veracity of the claims but rather focuses on the lack of reasonable grounds for Trump to pursue compensation or damages.

Orbis’ Defense and Court Decision

Orbis argued that Trump’s lawsuit was driven by his “longstanding grievances” against the company and Steele.

The court, represented by Judge Steyn, determined that Trump had insufficient grounds for seeking compensation or damages, thereby dismissing the case.

The decision underscores the legal challenges faced by Trump, who is involved in multiple legal battles, including four criminal prosecutions in the United States.

In response to the court ruling, a Trump campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, issued a statement asserting, “President Trump will continue to fight for the truth and against falsehoods such as ones promulgated by Steele and his cohorts.”

The dismissal of this lawsuit adds to the array of legal challenges the former president is confronting.

Orbis Business Intelligence did not provide immediate comment following the court’s decision.

The outcome of this UK court case does not validate or discredit the allegations within the Steele dossier but emphasizes the legal complexities surrounding the former president as he navigates various legal disputes.
