Trump Compares Biden to Carter in Iowa Victory Speech, Drawing Criticism

Former President Donald Trump, during his Iowa caucus victory speech, made a pointed comparison between former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden. 

This remark comes shortly after the death of Rosalynn Carter, Jimmy Carter’s wife.

“My wife attended the funeral two months ago of Rosalynn Carter. And it was beautiful. Jimmy Carter was there,” Trump said. 

“I thought to myself, Jimmy Carter is happy now, because he will go down as a brilliant president by comparison to Joe Biden.”

Recurring Theme in Trump’s Remarks

This is not the first time Trump has used Carter to criticize Biden. He first made a similar remark in November and again mentioned Rosalynn Carter on Sunday.

American Bridge 21st Century, a Democratic advocacy organization, condemned Trump’s comments as “cruel.” 

Brandon Weathersby, a spokesman for the group, issued a statement criticizing Trump’s approach to public discourse.

“He doesn’t care who he insults, disrespects, or offends as long as he gets his way in the end.”

“Nothing is sacred or off-limits for Trump, not the dead, not American icons, not even some of our most decorated veterans or the memories of our war heroes.”

Weathersby’s statement also highlighted the implications of Trump’s continued influence within the Republican Party.
